This is the prototype, or v0.9, of an Ekans scarf! It's knit with a double layer of wool, about 180 cm long and 13-14 cm wide over most of its length. Because it is a double layer of wool, it's very thick and warm and you don't have to do that whole fold-in-half, pull-through-loop thing to wear it - although you can if you want to, of course. Because the head and rattle are heavier than the rest of the scarf, it stays put even if you just wrap it around your neck once (yay for gravity!).
Now, if I were a good and patient person, I would not upload pictures of the 'prototype': I would wait with uploading pictures until I'd knitted the whole thing a second time according to the new and improved pattern. However, I am not that person, so prototype it is. I have figured out how to make a proper, Ekans-y rattle by now; a better way to do the eyes; and an optional open mouth. I'll take commissions for these as soon as I've got a picture of v1.0 up.
Thanks! The tail on this one doesn't rattle, but I've got it figured out for future ones! I had some trouble coming up with something that wasn't too heavy.
May I ask, how are you making the rattle? Just curious. :] And I love this; Ekans wouldn't normally be a pokemon I'd want wrapped around my neck (for an assortment of reasons) but the color is just so vibrant! And so unique.
I put a few beads in a small plastic case (like those things you find in Kinder eggs) and put two of those in the end of the scarf, encased in stuffing. That way, you can rattle the tail, but it doesn't make a lot of noise when you're just walking or moving about. The downside of this method is that you can't put the item in the washing machine anymore (but as these scarves are knit with non-superwash wool, they should be washed by hand only anyway). Some craft/hobby stores sell small rattles for baby's toys and such, those would work as well and they may be wash-proof given their intended use.
(sorry for late reply, I was on holiday) They're actually fairly easy to make if you can knit (I know you do crochet, I'm not sure if you can knit), or if you show it to someone who can knit they can probably reverse engineer it and have your next birthday present sorted out. Or, obviously, I'll be selling them shortly Anyway, thanks for the comment!
